Lesson On the Crazy Heavy Rainfall Day

Rogo and I had a lesson Sat. morning and it was pouring! It was so loud in the indoor ring that Cheryl and I could hardly hear one another. Doug wouldn't ride Savanah because she was too spooky (normally she's totally rock solid), and I don't think anyone else was riding, but Rogo doesn't mind wind and rain.
We started doing a lot of fairly tight bends and loops, and also quite small circles, at the trot. This made his gait less rhythmic and forward, but it's good to get him doing this and seeing his bending improving.
I've added a video for my future reference, thanks to Doug recording. If you watch it you might want to turn the sound off as the rain is roaring. I see his canter still doesn't have the jump it did, but it's come and gone before. Hope it never goes for good! He's on his forehand, but all in all I'm happy with him. He's looking happy and relaxed most of the time, even though the conditions were wild, and he's willing in trying for all this fairly challenging bending and bending changes.

Glad he was good with all the noise, and able to work well for you.

Carol, What a great horse Rogo is to be so willing and responsive in rainy, noisy conditions! I am so impressed by that. He is such a super horse! (I'll watch your video from another computer with faster connections.)

Carol, I watched your video- You both look great. Rogo has such a nice rhythm at the canter, nice and steady. Very nice!

I ride Western in a Hunter/Jumper/Dressage barn, one of few who do. :) It's the only discipline I've known (and the only saddle I have). However, I've become interested in Dressage and have it down as one of my goals - it's so beautiful! I really enjoyed watching your video - you and Rogo look GREAT! You motivate me to move forward with my goal. Thank you!

he does look really relaxed in a good rhythm with all that horrible noise outside! i love horses with a level head on their.. shoulders, or should i say neck? i wish i could rope someone in to video when i ride sometimes, may be something i work on haha :)
oh and you totally made me realise i never do any proper bending exercises like this. i'm so focused on lateral work and lengthening and shortening the stride lately, that i've been really neglecting the good old suppling and bending work, which is what i actually need to work on!

I don't know if it's the camera angle, but that arena looks so small. I guess I don't know how big Rogo is though so maybe he just makes it look small lol. I'm also not used to a fully enclosed arena. The barn where I used to work and take lessons was open on one side so it probably made it appear bigger.

Anyway I just rambled off lol. He looks great. You guys are doing so well. :)

Thanks for all the comments. 50 +, I hope you try dressage!
Yes, the indoor is a little small, but there's an outdoor too that has drain pipes installed under it, so unless it is pouring or too icey we can ride in a bigger ring outside. It's nice to have the option to be in.
